Programs that connect innovation and community

Our initiatives translate knowledge into public resources, learning opportunities, and locally relevant engagement.

Plain Language Health Library

An open collection of plain-language resources about health information, services, and emerging tools.

The Plain Language Health Library is our home for free guides written at about an 8th grade reading level. Each guide explains one topic and ends with clear next steps.

Who it is for. Patients, families, caregivers, and anyone who wants health information they can use.

How it works. Students and clinicians draft guides. A licensed health professional reviews each one before it is published.

What is next. We plan to add Spanish versions and printable copies for clinics and community groups.

Community Health Tech Nights

Hands-on community learning sessions focused on patient portals, telehealth, and commonly used digital health services.

Health tech only helps if people feel confident using it. Community Health Tech Nights bring small groups together with trained volunteers.

What happens. Attendees practice joining a video visit, logging in to a patient portal, and sending a message to a care team. Volunteers never ask for or see personal health information.

Where. We plan to partner with libraries, faith communities, and community centers.

Student Innovation Fellows

A proposed learning program for health students focused on evidence review, innovation, and public communication.

Student Innovation Fellows pairs health students with mentors to study one new tool or idea in care.

What fellows do. Each fellow reviews the evidence, writes a plain-language insight, and presents what they learned to a community group.

Who can apply. Proposed participants include students in medicine, nursing, podiatry, pharmacy, public health, and related fields. Eligibility information will be published when the program is established.
